CrewSC's Gaston Sauro to miss all next season due to knee surgeries | The Columbus Dispatch

Well, Gaston is set to miss all of 2017. I think it's surprising that it happened like this, though not necessarily surprising that he remains injured. This makes it all the more crucial to sign a couple of solid center backs this off season.

Oft-injured CrewSC center back Gaston Sauro will miss all of next season recovering from multiple knee surgeries, coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter told the Dispatch.
The news casts doubt on Sauro’s long-term future with the club and has the Crew looking for salary-cap relief on the Argentine’s guaranteed contract. It’s a devastating blow for a talented and affable defender who can’t stay healthy.
Berhalter confirmed it was the same left knee that limited him to just 13 appearances last season. His absence from the lineup (May 21-Sept. 3) played a role in the club’s slide from 2015 MLS Cup finalist to ninth-place finisher in the Eastern Conference last season. He also missed the final three games of the season.
“It’s going to be a number of surgeries he’s going to get and he’s going to be out for the year,” Berhalter said Monday. “That’s our reality. It’s a tough reality, but that’s the way it is.”
